Daddy Warbucks

Ever since, he has strained to remake himself as a municipal Daddy Warbucks, handing out Christmas gifts to kids and groceries to poor families.

In order for Annie to get her happy ending with “Daddy” Warbucks, she must learn that the parents she’s been yearning for her whole life—the ones who dropped her off at the orphanage as an infant with a locket to remember them by—are dead.

We cheer at this reveal, because it means “Daddy” Warbucks can adopt her.

In the comics, Annie is quickly saved from her grim life in Miss Asthma’s orphanage by “Daddy” Warbucks, an industrial capitalist, but her reprieve is short-lived.

My favorite was Little Orphan Annie, the strip about an orphan girl named Annie who gets adopted by a bald millionaire named Daddy Warbucks.
