“Derry Girls” director Mike Lennox infuses a necessary liveliness into a dark story that links to present concerns in more ways than simply thematic.

Yet at its best, the Robertson tribute — produced by Nashville’s Blackbird Presents, which also put on Willie Nelson’s two-night 90th-birthday extravaganza last year at the Hollywood Bowl — had a liveliness that cut through the many-layered retrospection of it all.

One of the things that makes Pennebaker’s documentary so valuable is the fact that it captured, in vivid liveliness, so many musical luminaries who would soon be gone: Joplin, Hendrix, Elliot and Otis Redding, who died in a plane crash before the film was released.

“We hope to add to the dynamic atmosphere and liveliness of the Las Vegas Strip, creating a welcoming environment for all of Southern Nevada.”

“We wanted to keep some of that liveliness in the room, but we did tone it down with some acoustic treatments so that modern musical performance doesn’t sound too muddy,” Bucher said.
