X-rating

The Motion Picture Association of America gave it an X-rating, the kiss of death.

Sereny was chosen to photograph the making of 1972’s “Last Tango in Paris” — an erotic drama that famously earned an X-rating in the United States.

It was given an X-rating and was included in a group of "video nasties" - a term used to describe extremely violent and disturbing, low-budget horror films from the US and Italy.

In the UK, however, the film was eventually given the restricted X-rating, having suffered heavy cuts.
