He splits his time between Hawaii and Carlsbad, Calif., waking up most days by 7 a.m. and hitting the gym for 60 to 90 minutes of weight work with a personal trainer.

The routine, about which Strasburg remains guarded, includes running, film study, weight work and side sessions typical for starters.

“I add on weight training, I box and really push my muscles. At swim shoots, it’s a lot about the definition, no matter what size or shape you are. So when you’re about to be in a bikini, weight work is best. I always try and appreciate however my body is at the moment, but I love when I see the little line down the side — that’s always great.”

Strasburg tweaked his approach to his days between starts and, though he’s guarded about specifics, it involved the running, video study, weight work and side sessions typical for starting pitchers.

No weight work and iron sleds for him; he ran and he worked out with light weights.
