Tidal power is getting closer to commercial viability, given the right price guarantees: wave power is further from market.

Eco Wave Power, an Israel-based company, is set to install the first U.S. onshore wave energy pilot station in the coming months on the port’s Main Channel, next to AltaSea.

A Scottish company, Pelamis Wave Power, found a way to capture the energy by using hydraulic motors and electric generators.

Unlike solar energy, “wave power does not set,” Hales said in an interview, referring to sunsets.

Two other companies, SeaWell and Oneka, are testing similar ideas using surface buoys and wave power, but OceanWell was the only one he knew of that wants to place pods on the ocean floor.
