The British Army's controversial Watchkeeper drone, built by Thales, has been tested in the area.

A British artillery regiment deployed its Watchkeeper WK450 to fly over the Channel.

"Unmanned aircraft systems like Watchkeeper are designed to keep our service people out of hostile environments," he said.

The Watchkeeper WK050 came down on 13 June, 2018, less than a mile from Penparc school, Aberporth, where pupils were taking part in a sports day.

The Watchkeeper has proved controversial and protests have been held at Aberpoth Airport by peace campaigners.
