Villous: Beset with short, undivided, hair-like extensions (Fig. 150, d).

Before leaving the inner aspect of the pedal wing it supplies a deep branch to the heel and the villous tissue.

Achenes top-shaped, 5-costate, villous; pappus of 5–10 long thin scales, awn-tipped by the excurrent nerve.

Leaves linear, frequently involute, and the ligule or throat of the sheath bearded with long villous hairs.

The papillary cancers of the skin and the villous cancers of mucous membranes are thus distinguished.
