That is how Ann "Waaddao" Chumaporn describes the years that led to this moment – on Thursday, when same-sex marriage becomes legal in Thailand, and more than a hundred couples will tie the knot in one of Bangkok's biggest shopping malls, in a riot of colour and celebration.

If they do tie the knot on Christmas Day, she'll equal the record as the Street's most married character, alongside Street Cars stud Steve McDonald.

To celebrate the milestone, Erdmann and organizers constructed a wedding chapel where guests could tie the knot under the tagline “Born X Raised Marriages Last Forever, This Is Legally Binding.”

That same year, the couple founded their Tie the Knot foundation to support groups working for marriage equality.

Alex and Sue Tatham, from Pelsall, Walsall, became the first couple to tie the knot after meeting on the classic dating programme in 1988.
