It was then alleged that, in failing to admit to the incident on 8 December, the officer breached the force's standards of professional behaviour in respect of honesty and integrity.

The force added its Directorate of Professional Standards department was aware of the case.

The force said additional neighbourhood officer patrols will be seen in Corby in the coming days to reassure the public.
