Nine months before Mared died, she had visited the university’s support services to discuss her mental health, but her family did not find out until a year after her death.

The Department for Health and social care said it was "unacceptable" that anyone should feel let down by maternity support services.

"There needs to be more rehabilitative support services, more funding towards Aboriginal-led programmes, because they actually understand what's happening for these families. And then we're going to slowly start to see change. But if it's just a 'lock them up' default action, it's not going to work."
