There was something eerie about the way Houston’s voice and the mid-’90s dance beat echoed through the vast space — music being played at club volume to a nearly empty room, with no one dancing, not even the avatar pretending to sing.

It’s easy to overlook the far-out creations that lie within this nonprofit DIY arts space — music that tests the boundaries of sound; art that’s inventive as it is introspective; enterprising independent retail shops with a treasure trove of sustainable goods.

And while the orchestra hit some obligatory notes — such as “Also Sprach Zarathustra,” the quintessential space music since Stanley Kubrick’s movie “2001: A Space Odyssey” — where it really shone was in the Saint-Saens organ concerto, which was played along with video that was so expertly cut to it that it became a cosmic soundtrack.
