Something like sinlessness lights the whites of his eyes.

Hence, the first aim of Dante, in his landscape imagery, is to show evidence of this perfect liberty, and of the purity and sinlessness of the new nature, converting pathless ways into happy ones.

That has nothing to do with the sinlessness of thought—nothing to do with the fact that no man is accountable to any being, human or divine, for what he thinks.

But this is only fine and futile verbiage, unless he admits the sinlessness of intellectual error.

Only such an one could intelligently make for himself the claim of sinlessness.
