Drivers are paying more for fuel than they should because retailers' profit margins remain "stubbornly high", the competition watchdog has said.

Which? investigated deals on 227 products at eight of the biggest home and tech retailers in the UK in last year’s Black Friday "fortnight" between 20 November and 1 December.

The retailer has declined to give any details of whether any action has been taken against any individual or when the review might be completed.

Target, Amazon and JCPenny were among the large retailers that released their promotions a week ahead of Thanksgiving, while Walmart and others dropped their deals on Monday.

"Betting and gaming operators, like any other retailer, locate in areas of high footfall such as high streets, and play an important role in the local economy," the BGC added.
