The northern Irishman balanced hosting BBC Radio 5 Live's raucous sport comedy panel show Fighting Talk with anchoring European football on Channel 5, before moving to precede Mark Chapman in the hot seat on Match of the Day 2.

He also began building his wider TV career, appearing as a team captain on BBC One's comedy panel show, They Think It's All Over, from 1995 to 2003.

He previously featured as team captain in BBC Three's comedy panel show Sweat the Small Stuff and presented the The Xtra Factor, which was a companion show for the singing competition The X Factor.

It didn’t take long for Wood to land on his feet, however: On Saturday, the comedian will make his debut as the host of “Have I Got News for You,” a panel show on CNN that will take on the week’s headlines and attempt to fill a void in the topical comedy landscape.

Simmons has appeared on UK panel show Mock the Week and produces the Jokes with Mark Simmons podcast.
