Now, I’ve been thinking a lot recently about the moral courage of a few Republican leaders – women like Liz Cheney – who found the strength to stand up to Donald Trump.

On the other hand, military personnel may be called on to display moral courage, and that is unquestionably pertinent to fitness for elective office, since that kind of service may require the individual to resist improper influences.

On the other hand, this kind of moral courage may well be called for in other contexts as well, such as the world of business, education, scholarship, and work as an attorney or judge.

These include not only moral courage, but dedication to the Constitution and laws of the land, personal integrity, leadership, setting an example for others, empathy, and plain old good judgment.

In response, inquiry chair Sir Charles Haddon-Cave said: "Integrity requires moral courage to do what is right, even when it may not be popular."
