The trail itself is notably thick with underbrush and can be junglelike in some spots, especially once you descend into Robe Canyon itself.

There’s lots of seating, with a long communal table ideal for remote work; a lobby bar with prepackaged takeout items such as fruit and wraps; and Layla, the Mediterranean restaurant with a junglelike patio where a few people were dining.

Park downtown and stop by the sunlight-filled Hayday Bake & Brew for pastries, potpies, quiches and coffee before popping next door into the junglelike Botany Shop, for houseplants and the opportunity to make a tiny garden at the on-site terrarium bar.

They park along Highway 200, grab their boards and follow an unmarked path for a 10-minute hike through an overgrown, junglelike landscape.

The artist would stay to paint some of his most luminous watercolors: of fishing along the junglelike banks of the Homosassa River; of black bass jumping from the water; and of the Shell Heap, an ancient refuse mound left by early Native Americans.
