In the beginning the din was ear-splittingly noisy and then deafeningly quiet as the whole place fell silent in remembrance of the fatalities in the desperate tragedy in Creeslough.

As anyone knows from Seafair and the Blue Angels’ annual visit to Seattle, these jets can be ear-splittingly loud.

It may seem easier to be silent but it’s compassionate to be ear-splittingly truthful.

As does, in a world of ear-splittingly abrasive production and knowing popstar posturing, her preoccupation with the acoustic guitar and the introspective mood it facilitates.

It works too, in a similar manner to control of an Echo speaker, that is until you “ask Harmony to turn up the volume” and you inadvertently jump 15dB from a comfortable level to ear-splittingly loud.
