Partygoers ate ice cream from a local creamery that created a special line of flavors for an election season featuring a hometown presidential candidate.

However, amid the recent right-wing fervor, a raw milk creamery based in Walton, New York, was found to be the source of Listeria monocytogenes that sickened eight people, killing two of them in 2016.

Food and Drug Administration in 2017 linked the creamery’s cheese to an outbreak of listeriosis that resulted in eight hospitalizations and two deaths — one in Vermont and another in Connecticut.

Her death shocked her new community, where she already had taken on managing a small rural farmers market and working at a local creamery.

A Dairy Partners spokesman said neighbours had been consulted before the new treatment plant was built at the Aberarad creamery.
