The series of staged readings by Green Room Theatre Co. is set to run June 22 and 23 at United Methodist Church of Palm Springs and June 28 to 30 at the Coachella Library’s Community Room.

The shooting happened after police responded to a report of a man threatening people with a long knife inside a community room of an apartment complex in St. Paul on Feb. 11, 2023.

What I found instead in the community room at Tokyo Villa was a humble, joyous kickback that reflected the woman of the hour.

“I’ve frequented the community room back here for the last 15 years,” Khorunzhiy said.

Little-known fact about Café Tropical: It was a cherished place for the recovery community, where people attended meetings for years in a modest community room, in search of sobriety.
