For many things, I’m building a structure to articulate and create a computer puppet that can be animated or in other places I am doing something that’s more like traditional cell animation.

Finnerty grew up in Pennsylvania with dreams of becoming a Disney animator — old-fashioned cell animation, like what they did on “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” — but by the time he graduated from college, the world had gone digital.

The hand-drawn and hand-inked cell animation reminiscent of Walt’s early Disney — aka, the Golden Age of Animation.

Something sets it apart from ordinary cell animation and 3D computer animation.

Traditional cell animation, lizards and alligators with glued-on horns, puppets of varying quality, men in suits, and full-sized models or animatronics have all been used to varying degrees of success.
