They’re literally banking on a Trump reelection to push the stock through the roof so they can get rich—and outbid the hungry short-sellers who are willing to wager quite a bit on their Trump Media bearishness.

"Crude is now serving as a catalyst for bearishness ... as investors view high oil prices as reason for the Fed to persist with high rates for longer than originally planned in order to curb inflation," analysts at energy consulting firm Gelber & Associates said in a note.

"While the overall picture is grim, bearishness around Chinese equities may have reached a local peak and we therefore are refraining from cutting our exposure," said Dong Chen, head of Asia macroeconomic research at Pictet Wealth Management.

At the start of the year, measures such as stock positioning and allocations to cash showed extreme bearishness, reflecting investors' grim outlook following a brutal selloff in 2022 and expectations of a recession in the second half of this year.

Analysts said palladium's bearishness is also being fuelled by broader economic softness and technical factors, with its break through chart support at $1,300 opening the way to its recent low, according to a New York-based independent metals trader Tai Wong.
