Today, the Boeing Fields at Long Bridge Park are a hub for after-school activity.

“I personally joined the club because I think it’s important to give back to your community,” said Tirsitemariyam Gessesse, a Bellevue junior who helped teach the after-school activity with Korukonda, Feng and classmate Joy Qiu.

“Yeah. The school me and Elena go to—it’s a private school. But both of us got scholarships. It only covers tuition, though. If we want to join an after-school activity or go on one of the field trips, we have to pay for that separately. My parents aren’t poor or anything, but a lot of these other families are rich. Like, rich. My parents can’t throw money around like that.”

Coached by a volunteer with Norwegian roots and a hat to match his heritage, Lindquist is one of dozens of girls and boys whose after-school activity is ski jumping a couple days a week at the Norge Ski Club about 40 miles northwest of Chicago.

The superintendent noted that the "facility rental for this after-school activity was not generated by the district and is not affiliated with Jane Addams or the district. It is nothing that involves or impacts the school day."
