That same year gave us “Brokeback Mountain,” “Memoirs of a Geisha,” “The Constant Gardener,” “Cinderella Man,” “A History of Violence,” “The 40 Year-Old Virgin,” “Wedding Crashers,” “Pride and Prejudice” and plenty of other fine, sophisticated, adult movies.

Even before that, young adult movies like Twilight and Hunger Games were aligning themselves with credible alternative artists like Paramore, Iron & Wine and The National.

Over the years, it’s been home to the Seven Seas tavern and amusement arcade, a shooting gallery, a cinema that showed adult movies, as well as low-income housing.

“Realistically, there’s not a lot of commercial viability for adult movies without the marketing prowess of the awards circuit,” said one longtime awards consultant, who declined to be named because of involvement with a number of Oscar contenders this year.

This brought her lucrative distribution deals, and in 2014, she turned to social media to promote the adult movies she produced.
