After entering an acceleration lane, Hyperlane’s central computer takes over the car’s functions and finds a slot for it in the already fast-moving traffic in the dedicated lanes.

Tesla became the first company to release in October 2014 an advanced form of sensor-based cruise control, called Autopilot, whereby the car automatically controls acceleration, lane keeping and lane changing but stops short of being completely hands free.

There are three - a 'fast' lane, an acceleration lane, and the pit 'boxes' themselves where the cars stop - and there are strict rules about when a team can release a car from a stop if another is approaching.
