ablegate

Ablegate, ab′le-gāt, n. a papal envoy who carries the insignia of office to a newly-appointed cardinal.

The insignia of the high dignity soon reached the city borne by a member of the Pope's noble guard and a Papal Ablegate.

There stood the bureau's "ablegate," the official interpreter by his side.

A cardinal had just been created in Australia, and an officer of the Noble Guard had to be sent with the Ablegate to carry the biglietto and the skull-cap.
