Kevin King, 57, was under the influence of alcohol when he crashed his boat — the 48-foot-long “Four Kings” — into the jetty, prosecutors alleged Wednesday.

"Stay off jetties, piers, and other waterside infrastructure," the National Weather Service warned in a release on Thursday.

The only way to get to the islands was by ferries but, as we later learnt, an estimated 94% of the jetties in the region were damaged.

“Large waves can sweep across the beach without warning, pulling people into the sea from rocks, jetties and beaches,” the weather service said.
