Labor particularly denotes hard manual work: backbreaking labor; arduous labor. Drudgery suggests continuous, dreary, and dispiriting work, especially of a menial or servile kind: the drudgery of household tasks.  Toil suggests wearying or exhausting labor: toil that breaks down the worker's health.
