✅ Unique describes something that is the only one of its kind. Unique can also describe something uncommon or unusual (a unique approach; a unique bracelet).

✅ Rare describes something that is uncommon or unusual, especially something that is valuable (a rare mineral; a rare find).

✅ Both of these words describe unusual things, especially when being unusual makes them valuable.

✅ Carry out means to enact, or do, something that has been previously decided or planned (We gathered all the tools we needed to carry out the plan).

✅ Implement means to enact something that has been previously decided, especially making a change or adjustment (It will take time to implement the new guidelines).

✅ Both of these words refer to following a plan and making sure that that plan comes to fruition.

✅ Implement is a more formal term and generally refers to actions and changes, whereas carry out can refer to entire plans and ideas.

✅ Discuss means to go over a topic, verbally or in writing, in a way that considers all sides equally (Discuss the character’s role in the novel).

✅ Argue means to go over a topic focusing on one point of view, in order to encourage others to agree with that point of view (Her work argued that we should reconsider the importance of a certain artist).

✅ Both of these words mean to explore a topic but suggest different goals and approaches.

✅ Discuss can mean trying to understand someone else’s perspective. Argue can suggest talking with someone in a more emotional or aggressive way (I want to discuss this at home; I don’t want to argue about this).
