✅ Acclaimed means that someone has received a high level of praise or approval, particularly within their profession (an acclaimed photographer).
✅ Renowned means that someone is famous or celebrated, either in their profession or by the general public (I hired a renowned detective to solve the case).
✅ These terms both describe being well-regarded.
✅ Acclaimed doesn’t necessarily suggest being well-known by the public, and renowned can be used in a facetious way to refer to being well-known for negative reasons (She was an acclaimed author; He was renowned for leaving mugs everywhere).
✅ Brighten means to make something brighter, physically or emotionally (Yellow curtains brightened the kitchen; She brightened at the news).
✅ Enliven means to make something more cheerful or more sprightly (The new wallpaper really enlivens the space; He was enlivened by his cup of coffee).
✅ Both of these words can mean to make a person or thing seem more cheerful.
✅ Enliven emphasizes something having more life or vigor, whereas brighten emphasizes light and color.
✅ Rest refers to a period of inactivity, particularly one in which you can temporarily relax (I had a rest between meetings).
✅ Downtime refers to a period, during work, in which you’re not busy or productive (We get some downtime between shifts).
✅ Both of these words refer to idle periods during work, however, both terms can also refer to periods of relaxation outside of work.
✅ Downtime suggests that the period of rest is only temporary (In my downtime, I like to knit; It’s important to rest on the weekends).
