It’s one thing for a politician to stretch the truth.

The old laws “essentially forced psychiatrists to stretch the truth,” said Carole Joffe, a OB-GYN professor at the University of California, San Francisco.

“He obviously has this tendency, where he’s a good and decent man who in politics has felt like he could stretch the truth up to a point just like virtually every president has done,” said Eric Alterman, the author of “Lying in State: Why Presidents Lie — and Why Trump Is Worse” and a professor at City University of New York.

Had that ruling held, Bollinger said, it would have set a “dangerous precedent for consumer protection laws” by emboldening music advertisers to stretch the truth.
