For the past 15 years, he’s been going on the road with circuses to preside over Mass, perform sacraments and provide pastoral care.

Another teaching union says the figures are a real cause for concern and "inadequate government funding" has led to a reduction in pastoral care and teaching assistants.

"They provide support for ensuring the safety, well-being and general development and pastoral care of pupils and their schools," they wrote.

"The pastoral care staff shut me in a room in the medical centre and left me crying and screaming hysterically for hours," she says.

“We remain committed, however, to our longstanding efforts to bring healing to survivors through pastoral care and other forms of assistance that are available apart from the legal process.”
