The Valencian government said looting was increasing insecurity in the region and warned those who are guilty will be brought to justice.

Dozens of people have been arrested for looting, with one Aldaia resident telling AFP he saw thieves grabbing items from an abandoned supermarket as "people are a bit desperate".

Earlier this month a number of police offers were wounded in clashes and a man was fatally wounded by gunfire during the looting of a shopping centre.

The Americans do not directly engage with that, except in a single sentence that acknowledges there has been “increased lawlessness and looting”.

There have also been reports of crowds looting aid lorries.
