Russian news outlets reported that hundreds of men from the largely Muslim capital of Makhachkala rushed the airport landing field on Sunday in search of passengers.

Russian news agencies and social media say hundreds of people have stormed into the main airport in the Dagestan region and onto the landing field to protest the arrival of an airliner from Tel Aviv.

Video on social media showed some in the crowd on the landing field waving Palestinian flags, protesters attempting to overturn a police car and others checking the passports of passengers who had arrived in Makhachkala.

But just as a scene begins to flatten, an aircraft crashes into a tree or flips cleanly onto its back on a landing field, instantly reviving the narrative.

But photos and videos from new outlets showed an Army helicopter lying on its ride side with significant damage at a base landing field.
