The public opinion polls suggested that the election between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump would be very close — and more specifically that Harris would be much more competitive, if not the victor.

Leadbeater said she expected the vote to be "very close".

"I think the vote will be very close," she added, because MPs were concerned "about the details" and passing her Bill at second reading would allow that further debate.
