Drones have been buzzing over Welsh wetlands this year as researchers try to find curlew nests and save the upland wader from extinction.

The Cairngorms were among upland areas to see a dusting on Tuesday.

The majority of the UK's peatlands are in Scotland's upland regions, which is home to the Flow Country, the most intact and extensive blanket bog system in the world.

They have also shown that the UK’s uplands could in future see significantly more annual rainfall than is currently being predicted in national climate models.

They carve valleys and canyons, create floodplains and deltas, and transport sediment from the uplands to the ocean.
