Martinique has been rocked by protests that have left four people dead in clashes and shops and businesses set alight or looted.

In recent days burning barricades have been erected, businesses looted and vehicles set alight in many parts of the island.

Shops were broken into and looted, while a garage owner hid in his shop with his wife and two children as cars outside were set alight.

At Leeds Crown Court, prosecutor Richard Holland KC said the double-decker hybrid bus was forced to stop by the crowds and passengers had to disembark before it was set alight.
