Golfers who do not post good scores are called “sandbaggers,” which sounds nicer than “cheater” but carries much the same connotation.

But 46 years ago, Roberts and Hemar, of all people, blew the cover of sandbaggers everywhere, large and small.

So perhaps it’s not right to label him a sandbagger.
