Now the pre-Eisenhower GOP is back with a vengeance, thanks to former president Donald Trump, who reveres Russian President Vladimir Putin while reviling China.

The paradox of American politics is that the putatively conservative party now finds itself reviling established institutions, threatening political violence and, in the Trump documents case, embracing the wrong side of national security.

His hallmark has been reviling “globalist” institutions and treaties that he claims infringe on sacred U.S. sovereignty.

The public flocked to him even while reviling his airline for its poor on-time performance and, soon enough, for its safety record.

But none of those who have spoken so far are directly taking on Trump after he stirred up his supporters by reviling young Democratic congresswomen who’ve criticized him and suggesting they leave the U.S.
