A team led by researchers at the University of Washington has created a headphone prototype that allows listeners to create just such a "sound bubble."

In August last year, a remotely-piloted prototype was badly damaged when it crashed during testing at Cotswold Airport, after a propeller blade fell off.

The researchers are now building prototype lighting strips to test on surfboards and kayaks.

The team were keen not to rush the development process - the project has been running for about a decade already, and is now at the stage of testing its prototypes.
