Dr. Brent Timperly, an assistant professor at the University of Nebraska Medical Center’s Truhlsen Eye Institute, said lens implants may be a good option for older people who are presbyopic and have lost near vision.

For some presbyopic patients, over-the-counter reading glasses are adequate for general near reading or handiwork.

“I see plenty of presbyopic patients, baby boomers who are frustrated because they always prided themselves on reading without glasses their whole life,” said Dr. Salz, a spokesman for the American Academy of Ophthalmology.

There are two types of progressive computer lenses: those prescribed for computer use for older adults who are presbyopic and those prescribed for younger adults who are not.
