There are many recognized rules of customary law the operativeness of which is challenged by this or that writer because they offend his sense of what is right and proper.

But the doubts started were so plausible that it was certain any condemnation or enforcement under the law would be carried up to the highest court, to test whether the fact of revocation, upon which the operativeness of the statute turned, was legally established.

So long as this operativeness is admitted to be real, it makes no essential difference whether its immediate effects be subjective or objective.
