After the destruction, Smith wrote a song with a friend called “One of These Days” that went viral on Facebook.

But, in a nod to the unifying power of cars, Ray imagined a trip he and Walz might take into the wilds of the Southwest: “Maybe he and I can go out in the dunes one of these days?”

“We’ll learn one of these days, but I won’t be around for that,” he said.

“One of these days, you’ll get in trouble, too,” he said.

And then one of these days, hopefully the show goes on many years, and I don’t need to be here anymore.
