The 27-year-old was confined to bed all day, unable to chew food and no longer able to sit up - she was severely ill with myalgic encephalomyelitis, or ME, and as a consequence severely malnourished.

She has been left almost bedbound by Myalgic encephalomyelitis and struggles to leave home to attend medical appointments.

That was nearly a decade ago, and she has since struggled with the condition known as myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome, or ME/CFS.

Up to 80,000 people in Austria are estimated to suffer from chronic fatigue syndrome, also known as ME/CFS or myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome.

Participants were asked if a doctor or other health-care professional had ever told them they had myalgic encephalomyelitis or chronic fatigue syndrome, and whether they still have it.
