The chancellor has scrapped a controversial deal that saw the government receive billions of pounds from a pension scheme for mineworkers.

It comes alongside a review to ensure mineworkers receive what Labour called a "fair pension".

More than £420m from a pension scheme for mineworkers has flowed into the government's coffers in the past three years, the BBC can reveal.

Eleven workers died that day, while the latest victim was the second mineworker to die at a hospital.

The country registered 49 mineworker deaths in 2022, its safest year on record.
