He doesn’t know of a volunteer who spends time, say, mentoring or reading to a child, and doesn’t feel enriched by the experience.

With the hub's help, one of the teenagers has received mentoring from two large pharmaceutical companies and returned to university on a different course.

City Hall said the funding will enable one-to-one and group mentoring for 2,200 more young people across the capital, with the programme forming a "critical element" of mayor’s "approach to tackling violence".

He said he wanted to make success in business more "relatable" in part through mentoring and networking projects.
