My rescue dog, Gus, and I take great exception to John Kelly’s characterization of rescue dogs as “mentally unbalanced” in his Aug. 8 Metro column, “It’s time to resist and show some tough love to our soft, sad dog.”

But to say that all or most rescue dogs are mentally unbalanced is just plain wrong.

Federalist gossip suggested that their erstwhile leader was mentally unbalanced.

Now I realize another definition is “mentally unbalanced dog.”

The minds that are closed to the reality of the Second Amendment are as shuttered as those who refuse to see that the mentally unbalanced ought not be able to buy weapons any more than felons can.
