The officer’s visit coincided with one of their mother’s visits — she arrived with mac and cheese, chips and chicken.

The little containers are labeled “mystery color” so you don’t know whether your mac will turn out a murky green or a Pepto Bismol pink.

She would make Southern-style food, so like fried stuff, mac and cheese and I loved to help her.
