Drinks: The quintessential Aspen watering hole is the J-Bar in the 1889-era Hotel Jerome.

But even if it doesn’t—even if you can't tell boots from bindings and the thought of getting towed up the j-bar gives you an acute case of childhood PTSD— the time has come to remember Kenworthy for more than just puppies.

A small downhill area off Route 100 in the Heartwellville section of Readsboro, which had rope tows, a T-Bar and a J-Bar but no chair lifts, had opened in 1945.

There’s also Jimmy’s, which specializes in tequila and allows visitors to scrawl on the walls; Ajax Tavern for dinner or drinks at the base of Aspen Mountain; and J-Bar at the Hotel Jerome, which will be reopening next month after a restoration.
