In an open-air, bustling café in Nasr City in Cairo, dozens of newly arrived refugees huddle in small groups, puffing on hookahs, sharing stories about their homeland.

The daughter of a business manager and a teacher, she has been a belly dancer at a hookah bar and a “promo-girl” for a liquor distributor.

Local media said it happened as patrons queued to enter a hookah and cigar lounge.

It was skirted with hookah smoke and roared with sounds of gamblers throwing knucklebones.

Cigarettes were the product most reportedly used followed by e-cigarettes, cigars, hookah, and smokeless tobacco.
