California’s emergency ban on certain hemp products cleared a legal challenge Friday brought by cannabis businesses that sought to block the new rules.

Hemp Roundtable and other hemp businesses such as JuiceTiva, Blaze Life and Boldt Runners are also suing the state to challenge the new regulations.

Critics say the proposed regulations would effectively outlaw a wide range of popular tinctures, capsules, beverages and other products derived from industrial hemp, including those that contain mostly CBD, a non-intoxicating cousin of THC.

“We’re taking action to close loopholes and increase enforcement to prevent children from accessing these dangerous hemp and cannabis products,” Newsom said in the statement.

He, along with other experts, brought up the frenzy around hemp, whose production has declined in recent years due to regulatory challenges.
